HACKVERSE
Smart Prototyping: 3D Printed Wheel Design and Performance Evaluation
The hackathon is organised with the objective of fostering innovation, interdisciplinary problem-solving, and hands-on technical competence among students. The event provides a structured platform for participants to ideate, design, prototype, and present technology-driven solutions aligned with emerging and industry-relevant domains.
Each hackathon will be conducted for a duration of 6 hours, with separate registrations to ensure focused participation and effective mentoring. Approximately 50 teams will participate in each domain, with each team comprising a minimum of two and a maximum of three participants.
Problem Statements
Round 1: Knowledge & Concept Quiz
Participants will be assessed on fundamentals of 3D modelling, wheel geometry, additive manufacturing materials, and process parameters through a technical quiz.
This round evaluates conceptual readiness for advanced design and prototyping tasks.
Round 2: Design Challenge (2D to 3D)
Participants must convert a given 2D wheel sketch into a precise 3D CAD model while maintaining design intent, symmetry, and dimensional accuracy.
The design should ensure structural strength, weight optimization, and 3D printability.
Round 3: Additive Manufacturing & Prototyping
The finalized wheel design must be 3D printed by selecting suitable material, orientation, infill, and process parameters.
Focus is on achieving good print quality, dimensional accuracy, and functional strength.
Round 4: Performance & Strength Evaluation
Participants must evaluate the mechanical performance of the printed wheel using testing or simulation methods.
Results should justify whether the prototype meets real-world load and functional requirements.
